Science meets photography: my role as co-author at Lichtemotionist

As a co-author at Lichtemotionist, I bring my scientific expertise to the world of photography. Together with Tobias Ackermann, the Lichtemotionist, I explore nature on photo tours and help to tell the stories behind the images by providing in-depth background information.

Joint photo tours as a source of inspiration

Our collaboration often begins with joint excursions into nature. Whether in the Black Forest, on the coast or in other fascinating landscapes - we look for special light moods and motifs. While Tobias captures the visual composition, I observe the surroundings with a scientific eye: Which plant species do we encounter? What ecological features does the area have? These impressions serve as the basis for our blog posts.

Integrating scientific perspectives into the blog posts

The blog articles on Lichtemotionist are not just visual travelogues, but also offer deeper insights into biological and ecological contexts. I supplement the photographic stories with comprehensible scientific sections. Topics such as the colour vision of bees, the role of algae in ecosystems or the importance of ancient forests are addressed and placed in the context of our experiences.

Examples of topics we have covered:

• Colour vision of bees: In an article about flowering meadows, we explain how bees perceive colours and what significance this has for the plant world.
• Special areas: On walks through specific and special areas, we provide information about their unique flora and fauna.
• Trees and forests: In articles on forest landscapes, we discuss the ecological importance of different tree species and the structure of forests.
