What is Sea Inside

The ocean holds more than water – it carries stories, questions, and quiet revolutions.

Sea Inside is an English-language blog project that makes marine science visible, accessible, and personal. It's heart are the people behind the science – their projects, perspectives, and stories.

Through questions, images, and snapshots, Sea Inside offers a window into the world of marine science: from the lab to the research vessel, from coastal ecology to deep-sea biology, marine microbiology, physics or geology.

Rather than just sharing technical data, the blog explores the “why” behind the research, the stories that move us, and the people shaping our understanding of the ocean.

The Concept Behind Sea Inside

Sea Inside is a blog series that brings marine science closer to people – by combining personal perspectives with scientific insight.

Every story in Sea Inside introduces a researcher and their project. You’ll learn what they study, why it matters, and how it’s done – from seagrass restoration to deep-sea biodiversity, from Arctic expeditions to microbiology, fish monitoring and geology.

But just as important as the research itself is the human experience behind it. Sea Inside gives space for the moments that don’t fit into scientific papers: the spark that led to a research question, the mud-soaked field day, the long night in the lab, the pride in a small breakthrough.

It's about science that speaks – not only through results, but through the voices of those who live it. Sea Inside aims to make marine science accessible and emotional – by showing not only what is being researched, but who is behind it and why it matters. It’s for ocean lovers, students, educators, and anyone who believes that stories shape understanding – and understanding inspires change.

Why Sea Inside?

I’m a marine biologist and photographer, passionate about the ocean and the people who study it. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege to work alongside researchers doing incredible, often unseen work – from mapping underwater habitats to monitoring Benthic ecosystems. But outside their academic circles, these stories too often go unheard.

I believe that science becomes more powerful when it’s shared – not just in journals, but in ways that resonate with people. That’s why I created the project Sea Inside: to open up marine research to a wider audience, and to give scientists a space to share both their work and what drives them. Because the best science isn’t just about data – it’s about people, places, and purpose. It’s about curiosity, struggle, small victories, and the deep connection between humans and the sea.

Sea Inside is where marine research becomes relatable, human, and inspiring. It’s where we ask questions like:

  • What drives someone to spend years studying seagrass/microorganisms/rocks/nutrients/...?
  • What does a typical day on a expedition look like?
  • What has been your most impressive moment in the project so far?

With each story, I hope to bring research a little closer to those who don’t read scientific papers – but who care about the planet, the ocean, and the people working to protect them.

Because when we understand science, we value it. And when we value it, we act.

How does it work?

1. GET IN TOUCH - OR I DO

If you are a marine scientist working on a project you care about, I would love to hear from you.

I also reach out to researchers whose work inspires me or connects to current ocean topics.

2. ANSWER QUESTIONS

I send a set of open-ended questions via E-Mail – not just about the science, but about your motivations, moments of surprise, and what your project means to you.

3. SHARE PHOTOS/VIDEOS

These can be of you in the field or lab, of the research setting, or anything that visually tells your story. (Don’t worry – they don’t have to be perfect.)

4. I CREATE YOUR FEATURE

I write your story in a way that’s clear, engaging, and true to your voice – combining quotes, background info, and images to make your project come alive.

It goes live on my blog, with links to your work if you like and a Teaser on my Instagram. You can share it with your network – and readers around the world can discover what you do, and why it matters.
